Member Communication – December 2022

As we approach the festive season, it is time for us all to take a moment to reflect and take stock of all that has been achieved over the last year.

A chance to spend quality time with family and friends and have a well-earned break from all that you do for Scouting in Blackpool.

As a District we have started to implement some changes to things which in time will only be of benefit to all. These include a re-focus of priorities for our section ADC’s in terms of programme delivery and support for their sections. These will be followed up in the new year with some programme workshops that are being planned by Paul Harris.

We have started work on new sections and are progressing well with strengthening provisions to better serve the communities in which they are located. It has been fantastic to see our new Squirrel Scouts thrive in the Dreys we have, and I am excited for those new ones being opened in early 2023.

I would like to take the opportunity to say thanks to our District Chair – Katherine O’Connor who has made the decision to step down from the role. Thank you for all that you have done for the District whilst in the role. We wish you well for the future. I am now in the process of looking to find a new chair or at least an interim to the role before our next AGM.

The dedication that each of you show week in week out is awe inspiring and you should be proud of all that you have achieved. I know I am. As volunteers you may have faced some challenges but with a positive attitude and the knowledge that everything we do is for the benefit of young people in Blackpool then we will make good things happen!

Wishing you all the warmest of wishes for this festive season and a Happy New Year!

Best wishes,
Matt (District Commissioner)
