We organise and run a variety of learning courses that are available for you to book onto, view them here.

We want all our volunteers to have the skills and knowledge they need to feel confident to keep young people safe and help them gain skills for life.

We organise learning at Scouts in what we call the Learning Tree. It’s made up of:

Growing Roots

The learning all new volunteers need to do within their first six months.

Branching Out

The learning you can choose to do to develop your knowledge further and get accreditations.

Safety Training

The safety of all our members is of paramount importance, it is essential that we provide up-to-date training so volunteers understand our safety protocols.

It is a requirement for all adults in Scouting to renew their safety training at least every three years.

(Required by all roles)

Safeguarding Training

The issues facing adult volunteers in keeping young people safe are changing all the time and it is essential that we provide up-to-date training.

It is a requirement for all adults in Scouting to have their ‘approved safeguarding training’ at least every three years.

(Required by all roles)

GDPR Training

GDPR Training is a mandatory module for all appointments. It covers the basic information that individual’s need to know in relation to the General Data Protection Regulations, what this means for their role and for Scouting and how to effectively align with it. Topics covered:

  • Personal Data
  • Individuals’ rights
  • Consent
  • Accountability & Governance

(Required by all roles)

First Response (First Aid)

This module aims to cover the skills and knowledge necessary to enable adults to manage an incident and provide basic first aid.

It is a requirement for all adults in Scouting to renew their First Aid training at least every three years.

All volunteers working with young people need to hold a current First Response certificate or equivalent (there is a transition period for those who were Section Assistants). If you run adventurous activities and need a 2 day course, please contact learningteam@blackpoolscouts.org.uk.

We have different delivery models including online training and full day courses (see diagram below) which cover two modules:

Module 10A – First Aid theory which covers the first aid theory. This can be run face to face or online.

Module 10B – First Aid practical is a short 15 minute session covering assessment of a casualty and child/adult CPR. This is run face to face only.

External First Aid certificates (e.g. First Aid at work)

If you have a first aid qualification through work, there may be some additional learning you will need to complete to cover all aspects (for example child CPR). Please contact learningteam@blackpoolscouts.org.uk if this applies to you.

Booking courses

Training is organised by West Lancashire Scouts in conjunction with each District. Click the button below, to find out where the next first aid course is happening.

Highlight the skills you use in Scouting on your CV

The learning that you will receive as a member of Scouting has implications beyond your role.

When applying for a job it is important to remember to include the formal scout learning that you have taken part in had within, as well as what you have learnt informally through experience.
