Meet our new District Commissioner

Following an open search process, I am delighted to inform you that Matt Hornby has accepted my offer to become the next District Commissioner for Blackpool District Scouts.

Matt will be well-known to many of you. He is currently Deputy District Commissioner in Blackpool, a Cub Scout Leader, a member of the County Team and our Unit Leader to the next Jamboree in Korea. Whilst Matt will be looking to reduce the number of roles he holds in the coming months, it does illustrate that Matt has a wealth of experience across lots of different aspects of Scouting, and that he is well-placed to lead Blackpool District going forward.

Matt will succeed Victoria DaSilva as District Commissioner at the AGM on the 7th July, and handover conversations are already underway.

Victoria has led Blackpool District with care, kindness and incredible dedication over the past ten years. The District and County is stronger for Victoria’s enormous contribution, but most importantly, thousands of young people have had a better start in life due to the work that she has led. Whilst there will be another opportunity to thank Victoria, I do want to place on record my enormous thanks to Victoria, on behalf of the County and Blackpool District. I am delighted that Victoria has agreed to continue supporting Scouting in other roles.

Finally, Blackpool is in good shape with lots of opportunities on the horizon: to strengthen our Scout Groups; introduce new Squirrel sections; reach more young people and deliver great programme opportunities. I know that the District will continue to thrive under Matt’s leadership and with the support of each one of you.

Best Wishes, Craig Dewar-Willox, County Commissioner
