Cubs master their pioneering skills

Knots, lashings and sticks. Yep that’s right, it’s a pioneering badge night!

153 Cubs from all across Blackpool got building down at Unity Academy on 21st and 24th November to earn their Pioneer Activity Badge.

The aim of the badge is to learn how to make structures from basic materials and work together to build something great. From playing a human knot games, learning new knots and putting their newly learnt skills to use and built a ballista.

It wasn’t just the young people getting stuck in, the adult volunteers did too! Learning how to run these activities to help provide more young people with pioneering skills in the future.

Lead volunteer for Cubs in Blackpool, Stephen, said “I am delighted to see so many young people take part and earn this activity badge. Other leaders commented about how it improved their skillset and will help them to support their members in the future”.

The Blackpool District Cub team like to hold badge nights to support our members on a regular basis. It was requested by the volunteers so they could improve their skills and knowledge in this area.
