Climbing wall now open at 1st Norbreck

After more than 13 years out of use, we’re delighted to announce that the 1st Norbreck indoor climbing wall is officially back open and ready to provide adventure for young people once again.

This wall has been part of 1st Norbreck Scouts & Guide HQ for over 20 years, but after years of deterioration it required significant refurbishment before it could safely return to use. Over recent weeks, volunteers from across Blackpool & wider West Lancs area have worked tirelessly to bring it back to life.

In total, volunteers have contributed over 140 hours of work, alongside massive investment by 1st Norbreck into refurbishment, equipment replacement and safety improvements. From cleaning and repairs to route setting and inspections, and even supporting a SOWA, this project has amazing!

A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed their time, skills and support to make this possible we could not have made this happen without those who have helped along the way.

We’re also delighted to have already welcomed our first visiting group since reopening. A huge thank you to 51st Blackpool Scouts for joining us on Monday and helping us put the wall through its paces. It was fantastic to see young people back climbing on the wall for the first time in over a decade, and by all accounts they had a brilliant evening taking on the challenge. We look forward to welcoming many more groups over the coming months!

We can’t wait to see your scouts on the climbing wall! Please email Matthew – matthew.corsbie@blackpoolscouts.org.uk to get your group booked in – sessions are £10 per hour with a recommended time of 2-3 hours!

Additionally, please contact Matthew if you are interested in working towards your permit, and you will be added to the mailing list for when training & assessment sessions are being run.
