Cubs put the out in Scouting

Hundreds of young people master new skills and get stuck in outdoors.

It’s been a busy few months for Cub Scouts across Blackpool. Getting stuck in with traditional Scouting skills and mastering new ones whilst all in the outdoors.

Jack Lamb Competition

A time to test their Scouting skills… 14 Cub Packs got together to compete in the Jack Lamb Competition at Fylde Scout HQ back in May. From first aid to tracking and survival skills our young people dug deep to do their best. The winners were 51st Blackpool (based as St Stephen’s on the Cliffs) with 6th Blackpool (in Marton) in second and 45th Blackpool (at St Christopher’s Church) in third place.

Jamboree on the Trail

Back in May hundreds of young people across Scouts in Blackpool put on their walking boots for a trek around the Fylde Memorial Arboretum and Community Woodland to earn their Jamboree on the Train badge. Jamboree On The Trail (JOTT) is an annual day for the World Scout Movement to hike together. All Scouts, whatever their age and wherever they may be in the world, are invited to participate in whatever way they can.

At the Arboretum, members took part in a quiz to learn about the history of the area as well as completing craft activities. A number of people commented that it was a shock to find the area that they didn’t even know existed! We are thankful to The Fylde Memorial Arboretum And Community Woodland for their support and guidance on the night. Well done to the groups who planned and followed their own route to take part in the event.

County Cub Event

Finally, 12 Cub Scouts represented Blackpool Scouts at the West lancashire County Cub Event at Bibby’s Farm. Cubs enjoyed fire lighting, raft building and a hike as well as other activities in the glorious sunshine. The Cubs came from different packs across the District and had a great time getting to know each other.

A huge thank you goes to all our fantastic volunteers who make these events happen, with their hard work our young people have the opportunity to gain new skills and master existing ones.

Why not get stuck in yourself? There’s always room for more.
