A weekend in the capital

This October our Cubs and Scouts ventured down to our capital city on a 3 day adventure of fun, friendship and exploration.

Our young people, 33 Cubs and Scouts plus 8 adult volunteers got stuck in with all the tourist sights including HMS Belfast, a trip on the tube, a walk to Buckingham Palace, a tour of the Houses of Parliament, views of London from the London Eye, a night coach tour of London and a visit to the Natural History Museum. Even a trip to the Harry Potter Studio Tour!

Stephen Chow, lead volunteer for Cubs in Blackpool, said “this was a brilliant, long awaited trip which provided Cubs, Scouts and leaders the chance to explore our capital city. The determination by the leadership team to make it happen was amazing, we were meant to go in July 2020 but due to Covid-19 we had to delay it.” Emma Harrison, lead volunteer for Scouts in Blackpool, said that “this was a great linking event between the sections bringing them closer together”.

Jayden Taylor, one of the young people from the trip said “After waiting three years, because of Covid restrictions, to go to London with Cubs, it was better than I imagined.

From visiting the Harry Potter Studio Tour, to the attending the Houses of Parliament, it is hard to choose a favourite thing we did. If I absolutely had to choose a favourite, I would say that The London Eye was best part of the trip for me. We went in the evening, so it was getting dark. The Eye was quite eerie at first, the view was beautiful with all the lights across London, and I found it funny whilst Emma, one of our leaders, was cowering in the corner! The number of facts I learnt from The Natural History Museum, and the tour of The Houses of Parliament, was probably more than I have learnt in school so far! We were not allowed to put suggestions in the suggestion box in The Houses of Parliament though, which was a bit disappointing. I thought, a two-day school week would be a great suggestion. I would like to thank everyone involved for this amazing, once in a life time opportunity.”
